Artist’s Biography
Tim Perkins is a native of central Arizona where he grew up in the shadows of the beautiful red rocks of Sedona. At an early age he entered the Air Force and spent the next twenty years traveling all over the world. As fortune would have it, one of his tours allowed him to visit the Louvre Museum in France where he was awe struck by the artwork of the early masters.
This encounter in France inspired Tim to begin studying the works of the artists he admired most. “I was immediately drawn to the dramatic works of Leffel and Kreutz. The power of the light in their paintings was very attractive to me and I knew immediately I wanted to paint in that style.”
Tim dove in to studying every book, video and painting he could find and began refining his own talents through “miles of canvas and trial and error.” He received his first taste of formal training when he attended a workshop by Gregg Kreutz at the Scottsdale Artist School in Arizona.
Shortly after the workshop, Tim entered his first show which was a juried event at the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts. Much to his surprise, he won the Director’s Choice Award for “Best Body of Work.” Since that initial show, Tim has won numerous awards in many shows and exhibitions. Most recently he won First Place in Oils at the Best and Brightest Show at the Scottsdale Artist School and was selected as a finalist in the David A. Leffel Still Life Excellence Award international competition. His paintings now hang in the homes of many collectors around the world. Tim believes…”the pursuit of great art is a never-ending, totally frustrating and wonderfully enjoyable adventure.”
